MICHAEL KIDGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
IN OPTICAL DESIGN

The Michael Kidger Memorial Scholarship was established to honour Michael John Kidger who passed away while on a lecture trip to Australia in 1998. Michael was a well-respected educator, design software developer and member of the optical science and engineering community. He leaves a legacy of sincere concern for the understanding of his students and leadership in the development of practical design software for PC's. The award is a grant award in the amount of $5,000.

The scholarship awardee chosen for 2016 is Yunfeng Nie. Yunfeng is a PhD student under the guidance of Prof. Fabian Duerr (2012 Kidger Scholar Awardee) and Prof. Hugo Thienpont at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The 2016 Kidger Scholarship award was presented to Yunfeng on 15 September 2016 by Tina E. Kidger at UKODM 2016, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire, UK.
